Did you know that July is Fragile X Syndrome Awareness Month? Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is caused by the mutation of one gene – FMR1 – on the X chromosome and is inherited genetically. Everybody has the FMR1 gene on their X chromosome. When a mutation occurs with the FMR1 gene, it can lead to intellectual disability, behavioral and learning challenges, and various other physical characteristics.
